This week, we will be giving away Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 1, Issues #25 and #26, as well as a copy of Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, Issue #3 (to be released this Wednesday). These two classic comics (pictured to the left) feature the original Guardians team, which included Yondu, a character who will be played by Michael Rooker in the upcoming film adaptation. These are both great comics for anyone who wants to get to know a little more about the original Guardians. Who knows which of them may pop up in the current run of comics or the movie.

My favorite childhood superhero was Spider-Man. Gotta root for the normal guy who does his best with the circumstances that he's given.
ReplyDeleteVery true. Spider-Man is probably the most relatable superhero, by far.
DeleteI have to go with Daredevil, who is something of a personal role model of mine. We were both raised Catholic, with violent fathers and absent mothers.
ReplyDeleteOf course, he's also a wealthy ninja lawyer with superpowers who dates models. But I can see colors, which is also nice.
Daredevil was my favorite too. I could relate to his Catholicism and tomented soul. What did you think of the Ben Affleck movie? Also, what's your e-mail address so we can contact you?
DeleteThe movie was... eh. The director's cut is actually all right, but it just makes me want a Daredevil television series. You'd think a television show about a handicapped lawyer who fights crime would be an easy sell, but apparently not.

Yea, if I ever watch it, it's the directors cut. I loved Colin Farrell as Bullseye. If only they had kept the ridiculous costume. And it does sound like an easy sell. Maybe now that Marvel has the rights back, they will get on that.
DeleteSilver Surfer.
ReplyDeleteSacrifices himself to save his home planet AND then also saves Earth. Plus Ron Lim did some amazing art during my main collecting run. ;)
I'll have to check out Ron Lim's issues. I've always loved the Silver Surfer. I wish Marvel held the movie rights to him!
DeleteMy favorite childhood superhero was Captain America. I like what he stood for and instead of having weapons, such as guns or swords, he uses a shield, known for defense, but makes it offensive.
ReplyDeleteYou know, I never was a big Captain America fan until his movie came out. Then I went back and started reading some of his old issues and I must say, I like what he stands for too.
DeleteI have to go with the Silver Surfer. His power of cosmic awareness is unmatched in the comic book world in my opinion. The fact that he can understand emotions in it's physical and chemical totality and not feel it due to his power cosmic makes for one of the most sophisticated and interesting character in the Marvel universe. His own series and his appearances in the Fantastic Four in the silver age makes for some of the best artwork I've ever seen in the industry. My issue 4 of the Silver Surfer has probably one of the best covers done in comics by artist John Buscema. It's by far my most prized possession.
ReplyDeleteI checked out the cover and it's awesome! I wouldn't mind having a poster of that.
DeleteMy favorite childhood superhero is Hawkeye. What really makes Hawkeye stand out from the rest is the fact that he is the definition of a real life hero. Clint Barton has no real "superpowers" like Wolverine or Spider-man, but instead he has dedicated his life to train to become an Avenger with simply a bow and arrow. He doesn't have money like Ironman either which makes his story all the more impressive. Hawkeye is a real role model who just about any kid can aspire to be, and thats why he was my childhood hero.
ReplyDeleteI've been reading Hawkeye: My Life as a Weapon. It's really made me appreciate him as a character. Thanks for the comment!
DeleteMy favorite was Iron Man. Even though he was not nearly as popular back then as he was today, I found the inner battle between him and alcoholism very entertaining and realistic. It also added a sense of depth to Tony Stark that I was unable to find in many other comic book characters.
ReplyDeleteIron Man was my father's favorite superhero for that very reason. Every night he would have to plug himself up. He could never really have a normal life. Thanks for the comment!
DeleteMy favorite superhero was always Hal Jordan Green Lantern. I loved the freedom he had to explore the universe and all the interesting characters he met along the way (which is also why I love the Guardians). I also loved his cocksure attitude; he reminded me a lot of my other childhood favorite, Han Solo. Plus, when Emerald Twilight came out, it blew me away to see a hero fall so far and fast into darkness. Ultimately it gave him a human layer of sin and regret that so many other heroes lack
ReplyDeleteI've never read any Green Lantern, but your description makes me want to. Thanks for the comment!
DeleteDr. Strange. The guy goes from cocky unempathetic surgeon to sorceror supreme by overcoming his undesirable personality traits and overhauling his entire character. Once he becomes Dr. Strange as we know him he takes the ultimate responsibility of protecting our realm on his shoulders without even hesitating because he knows it must be done. His iron will is what's always amazed me.

I hope Marvel makes a movie soon. Dr. Strange is awesome.
DeleteMy favorite comic character growing up was Batman, was introduced to the show as a young one and then followed the comics a little bit later on. I really liked him because he was a little bit more relatable as he was just a regular person underneath it all. Plus I was brought up on mystery/detective stories so it just fell in line with those.
ReplyDeletebdporter22@gmail.com
I am Batman.
DeleteMy favorite comic book character is Gambit. He's an underrated character whose inner conflicts I find original and engaging. Also, I have a lot of cajun family so there's that...
ReplyDeleteledoux0892@gmail.com
Gambit is one of my favorite X-Men. Thanks for the comment.
DeleteMy Favorite childhood hero was Captain America! I collected a bunch of his old issues and would read them all, I loved his outfit and the fact that he would never back down from his enemies!
ReplyDeleteAnd my email is Woofardtheindy@yahoo.com
DeleteCap rocks! Thanks for the comment!
DeleteMy favorite childhood hero was Ironman! I always liked the fact that he got his powers from things that he created, it didn't hurt that they were the first comics I ever read as well!
ReplyDeletecalohr86@gmail.com
Thanks for the comment. The first comics always stay with us.
DeleteMy favorite childhood superhero was Iron man, because since he was human it made the idea of possibly obtaining an achievement such as he could be a reality.
ReplyDeletechrismags2@yahoo.com
Very true. Maybe one day we'll all have Iron suits!
DeleteMy two favorites growing up were Batman and Spider-man. I guess I related more with spidey cuz I was always broke.. lol
ReplyDeleteMy favorite would have to be the Punisher. It shows how far a man can go if he looses his family and life. Not to mention the great writing and art helps too.

Probably pretty typical, but for me it was Spider-Man. He just seemed like a regular guy that could be me or anyone else, but had the whole being super hero thing thrust upon him. Definitely inspiring stuff and though my tastes in comic books have changed since I was a kid, I'll always have a soft spot for Spider-Man.

I've gotta say' I've always loved Hulk. First off you get one of the smartest scientists in Banner which is a really cool alter ego who then turns into a giant green monster whose increasing rage makes him stronger, more powerful, and more indestructible. He is the closest thing to invincible and it's awesome! Not to mention the character reflects a modern portrayal of Jekyll and Hyde which is a great classic story that I enjoy as well. My favorite is Planet Hulk because it shows how damn awesome Hulk and his actual personality are rather than just seeing him running around smashing things, even though that's fun too!
