Guardians of the Galaxy #4 Review

Issue four of Guardians of the Galaxy focuses mostly on the character of Gamora. Throughout this run, we really haven't had one-on-one time with any of the Guardians, but for this issue, we get a little piece of Gamora's story arc.

This whole issue takes place in the course of a night, while the Guardians are out celebrating their escape from the Spartax. Anybody who has read the preview pages knows that Gamora and Tony have somewhat of a one night stand. As someone who has not been keeping up with Iron Man's current comic arc, this issue made Tony seem  like somewhat of a misogynist, especially after I realized that he was still with Pepper Potts. Other than that tiny nitpick, I would say that the rest of the issue was solid and did a great job establishing an upcoming arc.

Without giving too much away, we are treated to an awesome Gamora fight scene, taking place simultaneously with a bar fight featuring the other Guardians. The bar fight plays more for laughs, while Gamora's storyline sets up an intriguing mystery. It's too bad we have to wait a full month for the next issue, because I'm wanting answers now!

This is the first issue illustrated solely by Sara Pichelli, and while I don't like it quite as much as Steve McNiven's artwork, it is still visually stimulating. While I'm not a big fan of Pichelli's Rocket and Drax, I must say that Pichelli does a great job with Quill, Groot, and Gamora (especially Gamora, va-voom).

Overall, my least favorite issue in this run, but still solid. What did you think of the issue? Leave a comment below!

  2. I think Sara's take on Rocket is decent except for when his mouth is open, which she draws very strangely. I liked the craziness at the bar, the fight and all. That was somewhat reminiscent of Guardians v2, which is a good thing.
