A couple of days ago, Lee Pace (The Hobbit, Pushing Daisies) was reported to be playing Ronan The Accuser in the upcoming Guardians of the Galaxy film. Ronan The Accuser is a well known character to die-hard Guardians of the Galaxy fans, but to the general public, he's mostly unknown. Here at Guard the Galaxy!, we'd like to give you a little bit of key information about Ronan The Accuser and speculate what kind of role he will be playing in the Guardians film, in a continuing series we like to call Guardians of the Galaxy Film Speculation! On today's agenda: Ronan The Accuser. More after the jump!
Ronan The Accuser

History in Comics:Ronan first appeared in comics waaay back in 1967 in issue #65 of the first Fantastic Four series. First thing you need to know about him is that he is a member of the Kree, a species of aliens who aren't very friendly. They have waged many wars against Earth and other planets in the past. Ronan plays the role of a judge within Kree law, which he believes is the law of the land, no matter where he goes. Although Ronan has been mostly known as a villain throughout the years, during the spread of the Annihilation Wave, he found some sort of redemption. Ronan joined forces with Richard Rider (Nova) and future Guardians of the Galaxy, Drax, Gamora, and Star-Lord, to keep the "cancerverse" from taking over our universe. Besides a minor scuffle with Gamora, in which both were manipulated by outside forces, his relationship with the Guardians of the Galaxy has been mostly positive due to a common enemy.
Possible Role in Film(s):
First off, Ronan The Accuser may or may not be an antagonist to the Guardians of the Galaxy in the film. According to earlier reports, Lee Pace would be playing a character who started as a villain, but ends up helping the Guardians. This describes Ronan to a tee.
There have been rumors of a prison scene being filmed currently on the GotG film set. This could possibly be where Star-Lord meets the other Guardians: in a Kree prison (where Star-Lord met Rocket Raccoon and Groot in the comics). Who do you think put them there? Probably Ronan the Accuser. My guess is that they will band together to break out of the prison, and will be hunted by Ronan the Accuser. Either that or Ronan will be responsible for forming the Guardians of the Galaxy.
If Ronan is, in fact, hunting down the Guardians throughout the film, there is a possibility that he will end up joining forces with the Guardians at the end of the movie to take down either Thanos or The Collector (who may or may not be hunting The Infinity Gems).
What do you think? Do you believe The Guardians will meet in a Kree prison? Do you think Ronan will end up helping the Guardians out? What do you think of Lee Pace as Ronan? Leave your thoughts in the comment section below.

Lee Pace isn't exactly my first choice for Ronan the Accuser...but he's a good actor so I think he'll be fine.
ReplyDeleteI've only seen him in his brief role in The Hobbit: There and Back Again, but I trust Peter Jackson didn't hire a bad actor.
