Okay, so, nothing's been officially announced, but Marvel editor Steve Wacker recently attended a writing summit for Disney XD's Ultimate Spider-Man where Brian Michael Bendis was in attendance. In the letters section of Guardians of the Galaxy #4, he hinted at a possible animated series.
"Now, look, I can't officially confirm that we spent a LOT of time talking about the Guardians of the Galaxy cartoon but wouldn't that HYPOTHETICALLY… be amazing?"The Guardians of the Galaxy have already appeared in the short-lived, but highly entertaining, The Avengers: Earth's Mightiest Heroes, but now it looks like they could get their own series. I mean, if there's a Marvel team-up that's pretty much asking to be made into a cartoon for kids, it's the one with the talking raccoon, right?
Thanks to DigitalSpy for bringing this to my attention. You can check out Wacker's entire statement after the break. What do you guys think of a Guardians of the Galaxy cartoon?
If its anything like Ultimate Spider-Man I don't want it. But if it's like EMH count me in.
ReplyDeleteI hear that. I don't hate Ultimate Spider-Man. I like the subtle in-jokes they throw in, as well as the fact that they give more exposure to some of the second and third tier Marvel characters (as least, from what I've seen), but it ultimately (pun intended) turned me off by how childish it is. Earth's Mightiest Heroes, on the other hand, found a nice balance where it appeals to kids AND adults by not being corny and dumbed down quite so much.
DeleteI've never seen the new spider-man show and the only episode of Earth's Mightiest that I've seen is the one with the GOTG in it. That being said, I really enjoyed that episode so I would love to see the cartoon end up similar to that. I don't like the idea of a dumbed down GOTG cartoon.
DeleteHaven't watched all of EMH but I did catch the episode the GOTG were in. It was awesome, I haven't watched a cartoon set in the Marvel universe religiously since the Silver Surfer cartoons were around. I'd be willing if they did do one for GOTG.
ReplyDeleteThat being said I can't help but think that the success of the film will weigh in on the decision of this move.
