D23 Expo Marvel Panel on Saturday

Every other year, Disney holds their D23 Expo (a sort-of Comic-Con for Disney fans) in California. Now that Disney owns Marvel, they use D23 to announce movie news for upcoming Marvel Studios films. This Saturday, August 10th at 10:30 am PDT (1:30 pm EST), Marvel Studios will be holding their panel. Fans of the Marvel Cinematic Universe can expect exclusive news about upcoming films, including Guardians of the Galaxy, to emerge from the expo.

This would be a good time for Marvel to announce the actors playing Rocket Raccoon and Groot, and possibly screen some exclusive footage for fans. They may even show the same footage from Comic-Con. What do you think or hope Marvel will announce/show at the panel? Drop a comment and let us know. Stay tuned to GuardTheGalaxy.com for information as details emerge.

  2. Yep. Rocket and Groot's actors would be nice. Would also be nice if they ever release that Comic-Con footage to the public. So, yeah, you covered the ones I would be hoping to see.

  3. I got the impression from Feige's interviews after the GotG panel that this might be the "soon" he was referring to. Though that's just a guess. While I've always read that Rocket was supposed to have a kind of English accent, he's never really been written with a distinct accent at all as far as I could tell. They could go in any direction they wanted for the movie, because he certainly isn't being written with a distinct accent in the current series. In the cartoons they've been in, he's almost had kind of an Australian accent, reminds me of Wolverine from that Pryde of the X-Men cartoon from the 80s. I could easily see them going for a New York-style accent as well. Which actor and what accent are you guys rooting for?

    1. I like the Cockney accent myself but I'm sure after seeing the movies a few times, the American accent might grow on me.

  4. I wasn't sure about the accent at first. Steve Blum voices him on Marvel Heroes with the accent and does such a great job of it, I've grown to like it. (He's also had an accent on EMH and UMvC3, both of those by Greg Ellis). And I had originally said they did not write him with an accent, however, I did afterward recall that, in GotG v2 Issue 17, he uses the phrase "crazy as a bag of spanners", which *is* British slang... so, there is that. I've transcribed much of his quotes and such for a section on my RR fan site, and you would not know by looking at the lines themselves that they were spoken with an accent because it is not a very heavy accent.

    1. The quotes I transcribed were from his spoken lines on Marvel Heroes. Sorry, didn't make that clear.

    2. Right! Despite some slang, his dialogue itself doesn't suggestion anything, when compared to characters like Gamit, Rogue, Pete Wisdom, Legion, when those characters talk, you KNOW it's with an accent. I don't remember if it was EMH or Ultimate Spider-Man (My geeky tends to wear off on my kids, so they've been watching both episodes on repeat the last few days. They're starting to get mixed up in my head! lol) but I /think/ it was Ultimate Spider-Man that he sounds more Australian to me.

    3. On EMH he has the Cockney accent, like he does on Marvel Heroes (again, I think Steve does the better job with it). Some people were mistaking that accent as Australian, but some Australians in the community spoke up and said, no, it's a subtle Cockney accent. Now, Ultimate Spider-Man. He sounded American, but the voice-acting was not great, and that show is essentially a different universe, anyway (i.e. Rocket eating garbage and them saying he is a member of a race that looks like raccoons, rather than him being a genetically modified raccoon).
