Months ago, we saw pictures from the Guardians of the Galaxy set of Michael Rooker as Yondu, one of the original members of the Guardians in the comics. In those pictures, Yondu is seen without his signature red fin mohawk from the comics. Because of those pictures, many die-hard Galaxians (GotG fans) wondered if the giant red fin would be added in post-production. Now, we have official word from Mr. Michael Rooker himself, from his conversation with Unrendered podcast, that Yondu will not be sporting the red fin. Thanks to ComicBook.com for the quotes. Check them out below:
“As you can see from some of the photos out there, I’m not in a loincloth. I don’t have a major, major fin thing that goes down my back. We haven’t visually gone with the way that Yondu was in the comics.”
When asked about the look of the film, Rooker said, “Lovely, beautiful colors. What do you expect? It is a superhero movie. And I hope that you see it, and you’re going to be going ‘I’m going to see this again.’ That’s what I hope."
What do you think about Yondu losing the red fin? Do you think it could have been pulled off? Drop a comment below!
While I do think that they could have worked the fin in there, and that it might have been pretty cool looking, ultimately its absence won't really make any difference for me. At the end of the day, as long as Rooker gives us a great performance (which I am 100% sure he will) then that is what matters first and foremost in my mind. But while we're on the subject I wanted to ask, have you guys heard anything on how Ronan will look in the film? Any idea if his look will be close to the sourse material or another visual departure from it?
ReplyDeleteSome guy on Instagram saw a picture of Ronan and posted the following:
DeleteCan't believe I just got to look at official production still from Guardians of the Galaxy of Ronan and Nebula. I can't describe how cool they look and how much it made my day! The costumes look so amazing, Lee Pace is going to be amazing as Ronan, he looks even cooler then Thanos did in Avengers!... He has a lot of prosthetics on his forehead & chin but you can tell it's his face, his skin is a similar blue color to Mystique in the X-men films! Unfortunately I don't have the pic, I saw it in a friends portfolio who was Woking on the film!"
Awesome, sounds like he's going to look great. Like I said, at the end of the day I don't mind them changing the visual look of the characters around a bit, but I've always loved Ronan's look with the green colour scheme and the hood and cape. I'm hoping they stay close to the source material for his appearance, but if they do change it a bit I won't really mind. Very excited to see him.
DeleteDOH!

ReplyDeleteSaw the Yondu photos last year and fine with the MCU Yondu look as it makes more sense. I think he was walking around with some armed Nova Corps Centurions. Lee Pace's Ronan sounds very promising. Thought they'd go with the lighter Kree blue color like Yondu though.
ReplyDeleteThe fin was the most interesting part. The mohawk looks silly.
