Greetings, Galaxians! We've got a few bits of Guardians of the Galaxy news for you, so we decided to compile them into one "roundup" post (just to make things easier on all of us). Well...what are we waiting for? Let's get to it!
Behind-The-Scenes Clip of Guardians To Air Tuesday Night on ABC
This Tuesday night, at 9pm EST, tune into Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. on ABC, for an exclusive behind-the-scenes look at the Guardians of the Galaxy film. It is currently unknown how much new footage will be revealed, but we can probably expect something similar to the exclusive MTV segment that aired last week. Check back here after the segment airs, as we will be posting a video of the clip as soon as it is made available (as well as screencaps).
For those of you who live under a rock, Free Comic Book Day is a holiday where local comic book stores give away exclusive (you guessed it) free comic books to customers. This year, the holiday falls on Saturday, May 3rd, and there will be two free Guardians-related offerings. One is a Rocket Raccoon one-shot comic, written by Joe Caramagna (who we recently conducted an interview with), and the other is a Guardians of the Galaxy comic, written by Brian Michael Bendis.
Thanks to blog, The Spinner Rack, we now have our first look at the latter comic, illustrated beautifully by Nick Bradshaw and Scott Hana. The comic features Starlord with his updated "movie look," featuring his mask, and signature red jacket. Click the image to the right to enlarge.

New Guardians Holiday Kids Book In December
On December 16th of this year, Marvel will be releasing a kids book called 'Starlord: Knowhere To Run'. Here is the description:
"Star-Lord, aka, Peter Quill, is having an amazing time on Planet Knowhere hanging out with the other Guardians of the Galaxy, until his birthday comes along. Peter is suddenly homesick and longs to be with his family . . . or at least other humans. His friends try to cheer him up but nothing is working. That is until he gets a message from Captain Marvel. She is on a mission searching for a Super Skrull who holds the key to a device that could destroy Earth! The Super Skrull is on Knowhere and she asks Peter to help her find the villain and save Earth. But Captain Marvel informs Peter that since the Skrull is a shape-shifter, they cannot trust anyone, including the Guardians. Can Star-Lord save his family on Earth, without losing the family he has created on Knowhere?"It seems like Marvel is really pushing the connection between Captain Marvel and the Guardians lately. Could we possibly see Carol Danvers (Captain Marvel) make an appearance in the Guardians film? Probably not, but we can dream, can't we?

This year is going to be the most exciting year. I think I'm more pumped for this movie than I was for Avengers. I, for one, am totally okay with Carol having a closer connection to the Guardians. More then merrier. That t-shirt is awesome, I'd just exchanged Iron Man for Angela. Is it okay for me to still be angry at Tony for Civil War? lol
ReplyDeleteJust an observation, but it seems to me that Marvel is having some issues with StarLord's costumes. It seems like they went in too many different directions between the movie, the cartoons, and the comics, and now they're scrambling to try and get him recognizable to the casual audience. Not criticizing, just stating the obvious. I find it interesting. One of the risks of dealing with lesser known characters, I suppose.
Yea, I don't know why they ever traded the awesome mask for the new costume (which I really don't like) but I'm glad the mask is making a comeback. I love Starlord's movie look. Also, I still have your Angela figure. I'm going to try to ship it off tomorrow, so you can expect it soon.
DeleteI honestly don't understand why so many people don't like starlords modern costume. I have always regarded the Guardians as a sci-fi team, so to me the spacesuit look just felt natural for the genre and the character they were going for. However, I would like to see the modern spacesuit with the 2008 mask.
DeleteI feel his modern suit is too generic. It looks cool and slick but there's nothing memorable about it. You wouldn't instantly recognise him as Peter. I love the 2008 and this movie version. Both costumes are full of character. Also just because it's sci-fi doesn't mean he'd wear a space suit all the time for e.g. look at all your favourite sci-fi movies and tv shows.
Deleteit is true that his suit is a little generic, but how the freaking hell do you expect him to survive in space with lose clothing? On the contrary, if they switched the gold with red and gave him the 2008 mask, would you be happy then?
DeleteI'm with you 100% on being more hyped for this than Avengers. This is the most excited I've been for a movie since 1999 when Episode 1 was coming out. Let's hope this ends better. LOL
DeleteAs for Tony... yeah. I'm with you. Civil War still doesn't sit well with me, even though Marvel has retconned like, 70% of the stuff that happened then.
I agree with you, but your thoughts on the space suit...
DeleteHey, i wasn't able to catch the "trial of jean grey" story. Do you guys know when it comes out in TPB? also, what version of the X-Men did the GOTG team with, i've read that there are like five versions of the team.
DeleteIt was fantastic. I think it comes out in June or July in TPB. The version they team with is the "All New" X-Men, the young versions of Scott, Jean, Warren, Bobby, and Hank, along with X-23, Kitty, and.... I *think* that was it.
DeleteI'm a huge X-Men and GOTG fan, so thanks a ton for the info. Also, Thor's on my top five favorite heroes, so would it be crazy for the GOTG and Thor to team? Or am I just dreaming?
Deletenot to say too much on one post, but am I the only one who thinks a chat between Angela and Sif would be hilarious? or some dialogue between Odin and Groot?
DeleteI would not be surprised if Thor does team up with the Guardians sooner or later. It seems that the Guardians have been teaming with a lot of characters lately. Also, I feel like Odin would be able to understand what Groot is trying to say somehow. That would be funny.
DeleteDo any of the main characters wear space suits in Star Trek, Star Wars, Battlestar Galactica, Firefly etc....? No, they wear uniforms, flight suits or normal clothes.
DeleteI wouldn't mind at all if Pete wore a space suit as long as it was iconic and recognisable as a Star Lord costume. The addition of the mask would obviously help his look.
I do see your point, but i have read the modern GOTG comics and seen that the GOTG spend more time in space than in the series mentioned (i am a fan of each, by the way). However, i do feel that Starlords space suit *could* be more iconic by adding red instead of silver and adding the 2008 mask.
Deleteto CLogan, yeah, i have noticed that recently. I wouldn't be suprised if they eventually teamed with the FF, and i do agree with you that odin could understand groot. He could probably use Hugin and Murin to translate.
Deleteto Cpark, in STREk and SWARS (and everything else you mentioned) the characters go into space in protected spaceships, whereas the GOTG have been shown to do actual missions in space (flying around outside of spaceship) thus, the reader can infer that the GOTG would have more use of protective spacesuits than other space bound teams.
Deletealso to Cparkinson, GOTG often do more in depth combat missions, and space suits provide better protection than flight suits and normal clothes as they are made of tougher materials.
DeleteSince when is Knowhere a planet? Also why would Quill care about his family when he doesn't even care about his brother in arms Richard Rider.
ReplyDeleteIn the movie and comics, it's going to be a celestial head (from what I've heard). Maybe they consider that a planet? Or either the description is not entirely accurate. I think Starlord cares about Richard Rider. We still don't know exactly what happened yet.
DeleteWe don't know what happened to Rider but Star-Lord does. Why does Peter refuse any attempts to get answers on how he survived, he's done that 4 times. The only reason I could see why he refuses to answer any questions is because he knows that he doesn't come out of that story looking like a hero or even a decent human being. This is the man who blew up a moon to save a planet and was always willing to sacrifice himself and his friends for what he precedes as the greater good. He so betrayed Rider and is probably working with Thanos. That has to be the answer, at this point it's the only one that makes sense. But if that's not the answer I except to see Peter Quill give the Rider family Richards helmet during or after Original Sin. That can't happen tho because then they have to address the fact that Sam Alexander is not the last Nova and if he would just give his helmet to Robbie Rider who has the World Mind he could bring back the Nova Corps and probably track down Rider.
DeleteI like to believe that this Star-Lord is an evil Peter Quill from the Cancerverse.
DeleteThat would make the most sense, but I doubt Bendis would have the balls to do that since this version of Star-Lord is the one most people know now and you can't have the real brown haired Peter show up and blow Blond Quill away, that would be cool pretty tho. :-)
Deleteto be honest, i have no idea what's happening here. I just ordered the first volume of guardians comics from my library :)
DeleteAnon? You are IN FOR A TREAT.
DeleteOh, as well, I checked my local library and it turns out the only Marvel Comics they offer are GOTG and the assorted X-Men titles, how weird is that?
DeleteOh, I put my last comment on the wrong post :). But, anyways, I just ordered a Fantastic Four encyclopedia, to try to get some footing in cosmic marvel, hope it goes well.
DeleteFantastic Four introduced so many great cosmic characters. That's a good idea to get the encyclopedia. If you see any Guardians in there, you should scan the pages for us.
Deletegood idea :)
DeleteWhat happened to the Element Gun?
ReplyDeleteThey seem to have replaced it with the gun from the movie. Maybe he'll have both now?
DeleteThe same thing that happened to Ship and the Master of the Sun. Don't be to surprised if you meet an ancestor of Yondu with the same exact name who had his fin torn off and is an old friend of Peter Quill.
DeleteWell the little machine gun thing he's holding, looks like it's shooting lightning. So maybe it's the same gun just different casing.
DeleteHEY! its the Anon from this post, ive decided to get an account on this site. :)
