BOX OFFICE: Will GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY Take In $100 Million Over The Weekend?

According to Deadline, Guardians of the Galaxy is on its way to making $95 million over the weekend. However, with extremely good word of mouth, the film could definitely make over $100 million, which would prove most of our visitors right (view our weekly poll results on the right side of our site). The film took in $11.2 million on Thursday night showings alone, and made close to $30 million on Friday. Although the second film is already greenlit, these totals promise a long future for our favorite space adventurers. (Hey. The Guardians always wanted to be rich, didn't they?)

What do you think it will end up making over the weekend? Will it beat the opening take of Captain America: The Winter Soldier ($95 million)? Drop us a comment below and let us know!

  1. If it makes over 100m, I will jump for joy. Totally deserves it.

  2. I certainly hope it does, it deserves it. Great film, but not as great as Cap 2.

  3. Let's hope Guardians gets over $100 million by the weekend's end. The only way to do it now is for Guardians' Saturday and Sunday grosses to be $37.2 - $38 million today and $25.5-$30 million. So, c'mon guys. Don't stop. KEEP GOING. KEEP SEEING GUARDIANS BEFORE ITS CHANCE TO REACH $100.5 MILLION IS TOO LATE.

  6. It is wonderful-crazy how it's busting up the expectations!! I loved Cap 2, but GotG is even more to my liking (Marvel cosmic was pretty much my first great comic love). So many friends and family are now really intrigued by the word-of-mouth buzz...it really appeals to people on so many different levels. My Wife goes to all these movies with me, humors me about the obsession, gets pleasantly entertained. She was emphatic in her love of this movie...even desiring a repeat viewing. Never heard that out of her...for ANY movie!!
Wether it makes $100 mil or not, another grand metric will be how it holds up next weekend.
That should be the next poll...I'm guessing $75 mil...

  7. I sincerely hope this movie will score 100mill, if only to prove that a great and well-crafted movie CAN and SHOULD reach that number. Especially compared to the pathetic Trans4mers which was crushed by critics, hated by many audience, yet is currently sitting as the only one to pass that number this year. Seriously guys, THAT's the biggest thing that pissed me off! Not that I hate that movie, but it's just not worth the achievement, especially when it's beating Winter Soldier, LEGO and Godzilla. C'mon guys, let's all support our Guardians to deliver true justice to this year's box office report!

  8. Alright, Marvel fans and/or movie fans in America. LISTEN UP. The weekend estimates for Guardians of the Galaxy report it opened up $94 million, but, while we are at it, let's try to get it to make an extra $1.1 million dollars to beat Captain America: The Winter Soldier's opening weekend record by the end of the night. It might not beat Transformers 4, well, maybe it could if it pulls an Avengers surprise, but it might be able to beat Captain America 2's opening weekend record. SO, C'MON GUYS. DONT STOP, KEEP GOING. HURRY BEFORE IT'S TOO LATE. LET'S DO IT.
