Guardians of the Galaxy Film Speculation: Nebula

The lovely Karen Gillan is playing a character named Nebula in the upcoming Guardians of the Galaxy film. The character is most well known for appearing in the ever popular The Infinity Gauntlet. Here at Guard the Galaxy!, we'd like to give you a little bit of key information about Nebula and speculate what kind of role she will be playing in the Guardians film, in a new series of posts we like to call Guardians of the Galaxy Film Speculation! On today's agenda: Nebula. More after the jump!

Nebula

History in Comics:
Nebula is a character who first appeared in The Avengers #257 in 1985. In her first story arc, she was a pirate who took over Sanctuary II, a space ship that served as Thanos' "base of operations. Upon her arrival, she claimed to be Thanos' granddaughter (although that has never been confirmed). Nebula has spent much time trying to wipe out complete civilizations. She even managed to wipe out all of Xandar and went after the Skrull empire. When Thanos gained possession of the Infinity gems, he used his power to transform Nebula into a disgusting living corpe, as a gift to "death". After managing to steal The Infinity Gauntlet from Thanos, Nebula used her power to rebuild the universe that Thanos had destoyed.

Possible Role in Film(s):
Before we learned that Karen Gillan (of Doctor Who fame) was playing Nebula in the upcoming Guardians of the Galaxy film, Gillan was quoted as saying her character was "really bad". The character of Nebula definitely lives up to that description. The only moment of redemption the character has had was during The Infinity Gauntlet, but let us not forget: she's responsible for destroying Xandar, the home of the Nova Corps. I assume that if Xandar and the Nova Corps are destroyed in either Guardians of the Galaxy film or an unannounced Nova film, it will be at the hands of Nebula once again.

Nebula hasn't had much of a history with the Guardians of the Galaxy, other than a brief appearance in the Annihilation series, but since she is a space pirate, she may be hired by Thanos or The Collector to hijack The Guardians' ship and take the Infinity gems.

I also believe that Marvel Studios' is working their way towards The Infinity Gauntlet storyline. If this is the case, Nebula will be made an example of Thanos' pure evilness. The fact that he was willing to majorly deform his own granddaughter in order to court Lady Death shows what sort of villain he truly is.

What do you think about Nebula? Are you excited to see her in Guardians of the Galaxy? Are you happy with the casting of Karen Gillan? Drop a comment below and let us know!

  2. I want to see THIS SCENE reified on the big screen. To the tune of Black Sabbath's SUPERNAUT. http://static.comicvine.com/uploads/original/1/15659/3024972-nebula-infinity_gauntlet%235-reversal.jpg
