The Collector likes to clench his fists |
Benicio Del Toro's character, The Collector, is a character that I don't know much about. I know that he collects different species. Somehow, I could see him trying to capture Groot, Rocket Raccoon, and/or all of The Guardians for his "collection". All I know is, I can't wait to see Del Toro face off against Star-Lord and his team.
Honestly, I was hoping that Lee Pace would be playing Richard Rider a.k.a. Nova, but this is not the case. There had been previous rumors that Lee Pace's character would be somewhat of a villian who ends up helping the Guardians and will have his own film. I highly doubt that that report was true though, because I can't see Marvel green-lighting a Ronan The Accuser solo film. Although, I could see Ronan The Accuser eventually coming to the aide of The Guardians. He's had occasional moments of heroism in the comics.

More Fist Clenching |
It seems like the Guardians of the Galaxy are going up against a lot of villains in the upcoming film. I wonder if all of the villains will team up or if they will all have their own agendas (I'd probably go with the latter). What do you think of the casting? Are you excited that these will be the three main villains in Guardians of the Galaxy? Do you think Marvel is building towards The Infinity Gauntlet? Drop a comment below!

The more I hear about this movie, the more I worry that it'll be way too bloated. I mean, there's going to be a few villains, both the Guardians of the Galaxy AND the Nova Corps. That's a lot of new characters all at once. But at the same time, I love everyone they've cast so far, and I have total faith in James Gunn, particularly with Joss Whedon keeping an eye on everything, so I always feel really conflicted.
ReplyDeleteI mean, does anyone else feel as worried about this movie as I do?
I'm right there with you Dan. I have a feeling some of these characters are only going to have small roles though. I don't think the Nova Corps will play a big role either. They will probably spend the first half of the movie establishing The Guardians and the second half dealing with the main villain (probably The Collector).
DeleteI can't see The Collector being the primary villain, since his whole reason for being The Collector is to preserve the Universe, so that in the event of its destruction, he could rebuild it. If anyone, I think our villain could be Ronan and/or Nebula.
ReplyDeleteI'm glad they managed to cast so many A-list actors. It just seems like an extraordinarily large cast for a movie that's introducing so many brand new elements to the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
I like the casting decisions, Lee Pace getting cast early could mean he made some form of an impression. And as for the film coming bloated? It's a worry, but for doing something like this it's better to go all in then to just tip toe around these characters. It's not going to be like any of the other Marvel movies and if it wants to establish itself as it's own thing (which it will if it wants to be successful) then it pretty much has to become it's own.
ReplyDeleteI hope this movie does well so we can continue to explore the Marvel cosmic universe. There are so many awesome characters that could translate well to the big screen.
DeleteThere's definitely a lot going on, especially if they try to introduce some backstory for Thanos, but I'm really excited for this movie. The cast is every bit as good if not better than any MCU movie to date, and I'm very interested to see what they do with so many big name actors and with the plot as a whole. Hopefully this is a huge success and we'll see more GotG along with the Nova Corps in phase 3
ReplyDeleteOne thing I love about Marvel is that they take chances. They don't play it safe. This movie is a huge gamble, but Marvel is smart enough to know that people want to see something that they've never seen before. I think Guardians of the Galaxy has so much potential to be a HUGE franchise, but not many people know about it.
