Kevin Feige reveals New Guardians of the Galaxy Plot Points

Marvel Studios President, Kevin Feige, recently talked to Empire Magazine a little bit about the upcoming Guardians of the Galaxy film. Here's what he had to say:

On when Guardians of the Galaxy takes place:
"It's not exactly revealed what year or month it is in relation to the other Phase Two films. But yes, it's the same time."

On whether GOTG be connected to the other Marvel Studios' films:
"Certainly more than the others. We've already said that Thanos plays a part in it and is a character in it. That in and of itself should tell you it's connected to the other worlds."

On Ronan The Accuser and Thanos:
"Ronan The Accuser is very much the main bad guy. And Thanos is lurking above it all. You will learn more about Thanos in Guardians, for sure. Certainly you'll get more than the one turn around and smirk. You'll get much more than that!"
On 'The Guardians':
"They are an unlikely band. It's pure circumstance that brings them all together throughout the course of the movie. Rocket has been genetically and mechanically altered, he's an experiment from one part of the galaxy. Groot is a species that happens to look like trees look, and is quite communicative if you can understand the different inflections in the way he says, "I am Groot." Peter Quill left Earth in the mid'80s, but when we meet back up with him he's very much a citizen of the universe. Drax has one goal and one goal only, which is to kill Ronan because of a past tragedy. When we meet Gamora, she's a bad guy working with Ronan and Nebula and Korath, and by extension for Thanos. Gamora doesn't necessarily like doing that anymore, and tries to find a new path for herself. But she has a reputation as the deadliest woman in the galaxy that people aren't greeting her with open arms."
This confirms a few things. First, Groot will only say "I am Groot!" It sounds like Ronan The Accuser will be the villain playing the largest role in the film, with Nebula and Korath as his allies, and Thanos as his boss. Seems like Gamora pulls a "The Bride" and tries to turn over a new leaf. What do you think of these new plot points? Drop a comment below.

  1. Sounds promising. (Especially that they are staying true to the Groot thing). The more I hear about this move, the more excited I am to see it.

  2. The more Feige & co. reveal about the film, the more intrigued (and happy) I am. Marvel Cosmic's a complex bag of tricks, and the worst thing Marvel Studios could do (re: shooting themselves in the foot) would be to dumb things down too much for an audience largely unfamiliar with these properties.

Plus, as Lee Pace said at SDCC, Ronan's a rather "complicated Kree"...

    1. I love the fact that he also described him as being "pretty unforgiving." That was just exactly what I was hoping to hear when it came to his portrayal in the movie.

  4. Hopefully them changing Drax's nemesis from Thanos to Ronan (a change which I am completely cool with) will result in a badass final showdown between Ronan and Drax. Speaking of which, I really cannot wait until we get our first look at Ronan The Accuser.

  5. Everything sounds spot on apart from Drax. I'm all for movies taking a different direction but I really hope they keep drax's origin :-( I can't imagine they wouldn't. That's his whole existence....his point of being. Unless they do away with his history of being created for one sole purpose. But that was his thing. I dunno. Hmmm here's hoping his hatred for Ronan is a means to get to Thanos although doesn't sound like it.
