Fast and Furious and Riddick star Vin Diesel seemingly confirmed on his Facebook Page that he is indeed playing Groot in Marvel Studio's Guardians of the Galaxy film, by making a picture of Groot his cover photo. Now unless this is to throw people off, which I highly doubt, this means that Diesel is playing Groot's voice. This makes a lot of sense, due to Diesel's very deep voice. It is easy to picture him voicing the giant tree.
Vin Diesel made a lot of chatter a few weeks ago when he announced that he had a meeting with Marvel. There were many rumors that Vin Diesel would be playing Thanos, but that seems not to be the case.
What do you think about this casting decision? Can you imagine Vin Diesel saying, "I AM GROOT!"? Drop a comment below!

DeleteSince the moment Vin posted he had a meeting with Marvel, this has been my hope. I'd actually root for Vin above another choice. I've said this before, but I feel that Groot will end up being a fan favorite, Chewbacca-esque kind of character, one that the kids, especially little boys, will latch on to. They'll want a bigger named actor to help bring that character to the forefront. I think this is a smart move and a great choice. Also, just a reminder or for those who don't know, this wouldn't be Vin's first voice action job. He also played The Iron Giant in the movie of the same name.

DeleteI just wanted to come back here and say how much I love this site and this post represents one of the reasons why. You explained what happened, and what it COULD mean, while a bunch of other 'nerd' pages I follow have been raving about how it's been "confirmed" and posting links to other website who say their "reliable sources have confirmed" like that somehow makes it less than a rumor? I'm ALL for Vin as Groot, as I stated above, but the ONLY thing that's been confirmed right now is that Vin Diesel was playing with his profile picture. It has the potential to mean NOTHING.

DeleteExactly. I had a big confrontation on another page, because they posted a picture of Groot and said "it's confirm! Vin Diesel is Groot!" and so I commented and said - That's awesome, I didn't hear it was confirmed, where did they see it was actually confirmed? Last I heard, it was just a rumor from him changing his picture. - I wasn't calling them liars or anything, I just wanted to link to where it was confirmed so I could share it. I'm really excited about this! It ended with me going "okay, so... it's NOT confirmed. It's still just a rumor. Right?" and them going "JUST GO WITH IT, DUDE." /Cue eyeroll.
