Kevin Feige Teases Surprise Appearances, James Gunn Talks Rocket Racoon

“Ninety-nine percent of the film takes place on the other side of the universe with all new characters and all new worlds, although through certain connective tissue – such as Thanos in Avengers and some surprise appearances,” Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige teases.
He went onto to say that past Marvel films have been building towards this first deep space outing. “We explored some of that in the first Thor and Avengers and then more so in Thor: The Dark World.”
Since this is Marvel's newest adventure a lot is riding on this film to be a success which according to James Gunn relies on one character: Rocket Raccoon! According to Gunn, Rocket is "the heart of the movie".
“He is most representative of the Guardians in the fact that he’s this little mangled beast that was taken and experimented on and torn apart and put back together, and we have to feel that character’s soul,” Gunn says. “If we see his plight, and see why he’s such an angry little guy, then the movie will work.”
Alright, Galaxians. Who do you think we could see, based on Thor, Avengers, and Thor: The Dark World? Are there any cameos you'd like to see that could link back to Earth and the Avengers that we didn't see in the previous movies?
I'd love to find someone from the "Rocket is an alien" side of the argument, just to hear the opposing side. While I'm 100% Raccoon, I'd love to hear the debate from someone who is 100% Alien on the subject.

Well, it is not like it is a matter of opinion or something. In the 616, it has been specifically factually stated that he is a genetically modified raccoon, in numerous locations. If that has changed it is expressly a retcon.
ReplyDeleteAgain, though, I am talking about the 616. The Cinematic Universe has its own designation. I could see it be either way in the film.
DeleteThis is exactly why the whole "I'm not a raccoon thing has always bothered me. He never denied that he was a raccoon in the past, he just didn't like being underestimated because of it.

ReplyDeleteIf not Thor, I want Beta-Ray Bill. Even if they just explain him as an "Ambassador from Asgard" or some such. Adam would be cool. I'd like to even see a "cadet" or "private" Richard Rider.
DeleteI think it'd be neat to even see a flashback to the invasion of New York, you could have Yondu or someone off in the distance, space-side, watching the invasion, the ships going through the portal, and see IronMan come through and fall back, Yondu blasting off just as the nuke detonates. Doesn't even have to be Yondu, just anyone just to have a little connective flashback between then and now. Say, whoever it is that saw it, leaves from there, stops into a bar at some space station and starts talking about this crazy Earther he saw and Peter over hears it - Enter Peter Quill. "Did you say Earth?"
Someone mentioned weeks ago that Adam Warlock was teased in the post-credits segment in "Thor: The Dark World". When you first look in the Collector's ship, you see this large, pulpy object encased in glass.
