In last night's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. episode, entitled 'T.A.H.I.T.I.,' Agent Coulson found out a little bit more about how he was brought back to life (after being killed by Loki in The Avengers). Apparently, an injection of a mystery fluid was inserted into his body, allowing his organs to heal. Coulson traced the tubes of the mystery fluid to their point of origin: the body of an unknown, deceased, blue humanoid creature (pictured below).
Needless to say, the internet went wild with speculation over what this creature was exactly. Some thought it was Coulson's dead body. Some believe it to be a Atlantean, an ancient race from the underwater city of Atlantis. However, the most popular opinion is that the creature is, in fact, a Kree.
If you don't know what a Kree is, you probably haven't read many cosmic Marvel comics. The Kree are one of the most famous alien races in the Marvel Universe. In fact, Ronan The Accuser (played by Lee Pace in the upcoming Guardians of the Galaxy film) is a member of the Kree race. They are typically large in appearance, with either blue or pink skin.
In the comics, the Kree are expects at genetic manipulation, so it would make sense that they would possess some sort of healing power. Also, Carol Danvers (aka Captain Marvel) earned her superpowers after a Kree experiment changed her genetics.
If this creature is, in fact, Kree, could this mean that Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. will be tying into Guardians
of the Galaxy more than we had originally expected? With Marvel
Studios calling the shots, I would not be surprised....

Yup!
ReplyDeleteOhhh yea!
DeleteAnd I wonder what the GH stands for. They've invented numerous characters for the show, but I wonder if it might represent a character or something from comics. Nothing comes to mind, though.
ReplyDeleteI think it stood for 'Guest House', the name of the facility they broke into. I'm guessing it was called Guest House because the aliens were "guests", whether against their will or not.
DeleteThat's right, I remember that now. Ok, that makes sense.
DeleteGH could stand for Growth Hormone ...
DeleteI actually thought it was a Frost Giant at first, albeit stripped of its armour. The size and build would also support this. But, the Kree theory does make some sense too, and I like the potential for "Guest House" to be a code name for facilities used for detaining extra-terrestrials. It certainly raises many, many exciting questions that I can't wait to hear the answers for. Like I said, I did think it was a Frost Giant, but now I'm hoping that it is a Kree for the sake of diversifying the list of alien races we've seen in the MCU so far. It is also a good way of setting up the Kree for casual viewers who might not be fans of the comics. I think there could be something to the "T.A.H.I.T.I.", but. It's clearly an acronym for something.
ReplyDeleteFrost Giant was my first thought at first too, but it certainly would be much cooler if it was a Kree.
DeleteI thought it might have been a Chitauri, but that when it zoomed closer it looked like Coulsin himself.
ReplyDeleteLook the "symbol" on the left chest of the alien body... Looks identical to the red markings we have seen on the chest plate of the Ronan action figure...
ReplyDeleteand so it does! nice catch there!!!
DeleteGood eye! Wow!
DeleteThanks... I wonder... Is it the body or Mar-Vell? Hmmm...
Deletegeeze...I hope not! However Mar-vell was represented as a blue Kree in the Avengers animated series....it would be just my luck that they bring him back as a corpse!!!
