The Guardians of the Galaxy movie comes out in August, but that hasn't stopped Marvel from releasing a prequel to the film in comic form. We recently sat down to read Guardians of the Galaxy Prequel #1, which tells the origin of Nebula, Thanos' (adopted?) daughter. Now, we're going to tell you everything you need to know from the comic, before you see the movie! SPOILERS BELOW!
Now, we'll tell you what we learned from the 'Guardians of the Galaxy Prequel #1' comic.
GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY PREQUEL #1
1. Two of the planets that exist in the Marvel Cinematic Universe are Praxius IX and Dervani. Neither one of them have previously existed in the comics (as far as we know).
2. Nebula and Gamora call each other "Sister". They also call Thanos "Master". It is obvious that Thanos has been training them to be deadly killers from a young age. This keeps with Gamora's comic origin, but strays from Nebula's.
3. Thanos needs the orb for his "universal scheme". Since we know that the infinity stones exist in the Marvel Universe, this is further proof that the orb is an Infinity stone.
4. Nebula has come close to death many times, once at the hand of Gamora. Each time, Thanos has restored her body with cybernetic body parts, in an attempt to make her stronger and deadlier through failure. She's almost half machine by the beginning of the film.
5. Gamora was once super freakin' evil. She let her "sister" Nebula fall to her death, after Nebula spared her life. It seems at the start of the film, Gamora feels bad about the evil she committed...but still...Really, Gamora!? You tried to kill your sister?!?
6. Korath (played by Djimon Hounsou) was trained to be a killer along with Nebula and Gamora. They all three work for Ronan, who works for Thanos. There's a little bit of a "Kill Bill" situation going on in the film, since Gamora decides to get out of the evil business.
God dang son. This upcoming film is going to be intense.
ReplyDeleteIt is. The origin of Nebula and Gamora is very unsettling in the best possible way.
DeleteI knew Gamora and Nebula were going to be sister.
ReplyDeleteThis was good. I want to read the digital one too but am not a fan of digital only books. I still like having a physical copy.
ReplyDeleteMy guess is that they'll include the digital one in with the TPB of this when it's released.
DeleteIt's already available at TPB since several days ago ;)
DeleteFeeling sorry for Nebula.
ReplyDeleteMaking the eventual hero more of a villain than the actual villain of the book.
Getting a Darth Vader vibe with Nebula (more machine now than man; twisted and evil)
I'm going to enjoy reading this!
One question: how and when did she lose her hair? I know how she did in the main books, but this movie prequel story is different.
Ooh! Think they'll retcon Nebula in the main book as Thanos' daughter? I know he's openly stated he wasn't the grandfather, but never denied any other kind of relationship. Maybe he got with a Luphomoid female in his past, but because he's so old, Nebula just called him 'grandfather'.
